In the heart of the flooded scrapyard known as the Republic of Whisker Isle, two unlikely heroes lived side by side. Wylla "the Wicked," a reclusive hedge witch with a venomous disdain for company (especially the rival hedge witch across the road), found herself thrown together with Annotto Butterball, a big-hearted blacksmith carrying the weight of a tragic past and a dead wife. Both were stubbornly independent but drawn into an adventure neither had quite anticipated.
Their journey began with a simple offer: Randolph, a burly mouse at the market, promised them use of his scrap boat if they brought back supplies or food. Their first stop was Stumpsville, a cheese-making village nestled inside an ancient tree stump. But the village was eerily quiet, its residents vanished. Exploring cautiously, the pair stumbled upon rats feasting in the great hall and venomous spiders lurking in the shadows of abandoned homes.
Employing cunning over brute force, Wylla and Annotto devised distractions to lure the rats out - scaring some off ladders, sending others into the waiting webs of the spiders. As the last rat fell, its cries for “Ike” echoed ominously. Among the wreckage, they discovered Heather, a master cheesemaker hiding from the chaos. With her help, they salvaged stores of cheese and returned triumphantly to Whisker Isle, where Randolph was thrilled with their haul. Using their newfound wealth, they helped Heather establish a thriving cheese factory, laying the foundation for a burgeoning economy.
A mysterious green light beckoned them to a cursed orchard overrun by monstrous, thorny vines. Maneuvering carefully through the treacherous terrain, they saved a family of mice fleeing the vines in exchange for their precious pips. Their path eventually led to Briar Keep, a towering fortress wrapped in vines, where two armored mice initially barred their way. Wylla, ever the deceiver, convinced them she was Queen Madriga’s cousin.
Inside, they found the Queen hunched over Lucea, a thread of golden magic binding them. The Queen explained that Rupert the Crow had stolen Lucea’s heart, and both would perish without it. Battling animate, humanoid apples and braving cider-laden distractions, Wylla and Annotto scaled the tallest tree to confront Rupert. After a tense negotiation, they retrieved Lucea’s heart and restored it to the Queen, earning magical tools, a fortune in treasure, and even more cheese for Heather’s growing empire.
The yearly race of the Frogacle was legendary, and Wylla and Annotto couldn't resist joining the spectacle. On their way, they encountered a gang of delinquent mice, placating them with tampered energy drinks that left the hooligans retching. Upon arrival, they ran into the famed adventurer Flint Bushwhack, who desperately needed a crew for his race boat.
After a night of debauchery (and Wylla’s foray into experimental substances), the race began. Their competition included a squirrel crew, a chanting gang of rats devoted to "Ike," and other daring mice. The race was fierce, with the lead changing constantly, but Flint’s boat, aided by Wylla and Annotto, surged ahead to victory. As winners, they were each granted a wish by the Frogacle. Annotto wished for their boat to always be stocked with fresh food after every adventure, while Wylla wished for peace at home, complete with an impenetrable fence to ward off intrusions. Satisfied, they returned to Whisker Isle and used their winnings to start a clandestine drug lab, further expanding their influence.
Word reached the pair of a former drug mastermind who had converted to the Lumist faith. Seeing an opportunity, Wylla and Annotto infiltrated the Chapel of Lumists, disguised as acolytes. With a mix of guile and brute force, they extracted the wayward mouse and integrated him into their operation. The drug trade boomed, but parts of Whisker Isle fell into disrepair, as addiction ravaged the community.
Their thriving empire faced its greatest threat when the city was attacked by rats devoted to the mysterious "Ike." Factories burned, and mice were kidnapped, including workers from Heather’s cheese factory. Following the trail to a wrecked camper van - a rat hideout - Wylla and Annotto descended into the lair. Battling their way through, they encountered graffiti proclaiming, “IKE SHALL REBUILD.”
At the heart of the lair, they confronted the King Rat, who met a fiery end at their hands, his cries for “Ike” fading into silence. Among the spoils, they discovered the rats’ “holy text” - a torn IKEA manual. They realized Ike was nothing more than a misinterpreted relic of the scrapyard’s past. Liberating the kidnapped mice, the adventurers returned to Whisker Isle as heroes.
With their enemies vanquished and their coffers overflowing, Wylla and Annotto settled into a life of luxury. Heather’s cheese factory thrived, and their drug empire, while controversial, ensured they lived in comfort and security. Wylla’s protective fence kept her in peaceful isolation, while Annotto’s enchanted boat kept their pantry full. The pair’s legacy, a mix of heroism and chaos, became the stuff of legend in Whisker Isle.
